Not a single, even the smallest, cosmetic repair is complete without dirt and dust. The best way to keep your belongings from getting dirty during renovations is to take them out of the house. However, such opportunity is not always available. More often than not, we have to be content with packing household utensils and furniture, but there is always a chance to plant a stain. And as practice shows, carpets, and carpets are most often affected. But don’t despair! A little patience and our advice can save your carpet from water-based paint stains!

Removing dried paint

Water-based paint consists of acrylic co polymers or acrylic resins that harden quickly and become impervious to water. The sooner you find the stain, the easier it will be to get rid of. Dried stains are some of the most persistent. Over time, the paint eats into the fibers of the carpet, and it becomes problematic to remove the stain with only one chemistry.

First, remove any excess dried paint mechanically. This can be done with a mild knife.
Mix 1 tablespoon of colorless dish soap with a glass of warm water. Apply the solution to the stain with a white tissue or rag. Continue wetting the stain until the carpet absorbs the liquid. Rub gently in a circular motion from the edges to the center.
If the paint has not softened and removed from the carpet, use a sponge dipped in glycerin. Wipe the stain and let it sit for 3-4 hours. After the specified time has passed, try cleaning the stain again with a solution of water and dish washing liquid.
If the stain persists, use a water-based paint remover. You can replace it with a solution of ordinary vinegar: 1 tablespoon per glass of water.
After removing the stain, be sure to rinse the carpet with clean water and allow to dry.

Removing fresh paint stains

If you are lucky and notice a stain before the paint has dried, take a clean white cloth or rag and dab the paint off with a dabbing motion. Try to move from the edges of the stain to the center to avoid smudging the stain even further. Wipe the residual stain with a damp sponge dipped in cold water. Perhaps at this stage the stain will disappear. If the paint has started to dry out and cannot be rubbed off with water, use detergent solutions (1 tablespoon of dish washing liquid per glass of water). Using a white napkin or rag, apply the solution to the stain and rub gently. Rinse with clean water and let the carpet dry completely.

Attention!

Before you start treating the stain, be sure to try the product you are using on an inconspicuous part of the carpet. If low-quality dyes were used to paint the product, the reaction can be unpredictable!
Do not use hot water! This can make the paint even stronger!
Do not dry the carpet with a hair dryer or other heating appliances! This can lead to deformation of the product.
